| Holiday Pet Rocks |
[Nov. 28th, 2006|12:46 am] |

I finally got around to making my holiday pet rocks, they're lumps of coal for all the "bad kids" on your list! I'm sure we all know someone who could use one of these in their Christmas stockings!
Available now in my Etsy shop!

| Best way to mail something to Italy? |
[Sep. 25th, 2006|12:25 pm] |
Does anyone know the best way to mail a small package to Italy? I've heard wacky things about their postal service and it seems that the USPS doesn't even do global priority there...has anyone successfully mailed something to Italy using Airmail? (or any other method).
Thanks! If anyone has any helpful hints... |

howdy y'alls
I skipped my Sampler contribution for the first time in over a year, I was on vacation last month and never caught up on stuff in time. I might start up again next month or get a bunch of nicer samples made for the November or Holiday Sampler. I have a new plushie idea for a holiday variation on the Pet Rocks, it'll be totally swell but right now it's still top secret!
In shop news, I now have a bacon pin to go with the ever popular fried egg brooch. Both for sale in my Etsy shop!
Also, Plush of the Month Club memberships are available again! I just finished the first 4-month round and it was a hit.

Hope everyone's doing well! :) |

| August Sampler contribution |
[Jul. 25th, 2006|02:08 am] |
For the August Sampler I made a whole bunch of hand-illustrated gift tags and put them into packets of 4. I sent in 28 sets, and every single tag was drawn by hand. The blue ones have fish and the purple ones have snails!
Next month I think I'll go back to sewing things, if I have time. I'm thinking fried egg patches, or at least patches of some kind.

| Summer Sampler contribution |
[Jun. 22nd, 2006|12:14 am] |

Howdy!
Here's a sneak preview of my Summer Sampler contribution. They're teeny tiny little knitted pouches with a double drawstring for easy open/close. I use them for holding random loot, like when I don't want something to go floating around inside my bag.
When I get around to making some more of these, I'll eventually add them to the shop.

| Just for fun... |
[Jun. 7th, 2006|04:29 am] |

My sister made all of these except for the one in the back (the plain one is all me, hehe). They're made out of cowrie shells we found on the Big Island of Hawaii many years ago. The hat on the middle guy is a limpet shell. I found them in a box of old stuff, they're probably more than 15 years old but they still make me laugh. Especially the crazy looking tranny one. |

[Jun. 2nd, 2006|12:10 am] |

I made some new yam-shaped promos. I'm kind of surprised, it seems like promo flyers are pretty effective for getting publicity. I've only sent them around to a couple of places so far (like, four? and not so many each time), but already two of my orders actually had notes where the buyer told me (without my asking) that they found me through flyers they got from other places. So I wonder how many who didn't tell me had found me the same way...
I've been updating the Etsy shop regularly, it's doing quite well! I've been trying to add more things whenever I have time outside of my "real" job, but they seem to be selling as fast as I can make them and the store inventory is kind of tiny. I'm really happy about this though! Better than the other way around! :) Anyway I just listed four things tonight, I finally gave in and bought fleece in "girly" colors, since people kept asking for them...I'm not the biggest fan of pink or purple, I'm more of a green person. But the lavender stuff is starting to grow on me... |

| Magic Yams |

| | STP: Plush (ha ha ha) | ] |

I've all along had this idea that I was going to make some plush yams, since my shop name is after all Magic Yam, but never got around to it until I got a custom request for exactly that. I designed these guys after the little yam cartoon on my tags and promos. I'm going to make some more soon, for the shop. I think they turned out pretty funny.
The square guy is a pat of butter, he has a pinback so she can pin him on one of the yams.
Oh and I had my 4th featured item on the Etsy front page today! (The unhappy pet rocks). Hooray! Now if only I could get the ol' shop stocked up a little more, that might help even more... |

| Plush of the month club subscription |
[May. 10th, 2006|01:43 am] |

I'm offering a plush of the month club subscription in my Etsy shop. It's for 4 months, and being a member of my plush club means that you get a surprise plushie in the mail once a month at a discounted rate, just like with magazines. I'm thinking it might make a neat present to give someone, but it would also be fun to get for yourself!
Many sellers are offering their own version of the monthy subscription for their items, after an enterprising gal shared the idea on the Etsy forums. I think it sounds like a super-neat idea, let's see if anyone else thinks so, he he! |

| Evil Eye |
[May. 5th, 2006|03:15 am] |

I really like lucky evil eye amulets. The big Turkish glass ones you hang in your doorway are particularly cool, but I never got one because I was afraid I'd bang the door too hard one day and shatter it to bits.
So I made a stuffed one! I made one for myself to hang over the desk, and then I put one in my Etsy shop. There's more pictures of it there as well.

| Worried Pet Rocks |
[May. 2nd, 2006|06:22 pm] |

I recently did a swap with another Etsy seller (they have a neat list of people who want to trade on the Etsy forum), and she requested half of her Pet Rocks to have the Tom-stone faces. I think they turned out really funny, they look worried!
I've been listing Pet Rock "piles" and "pairs" along with the single ones in my shop. They come with group discounts, ha ha. Last week I added a worried pair. |

| May Sampler contribution! |
[Apr. 21st, 2006|11:19 pm] |
For the May Sampler, I sent in a batch of these:

They're apple tree patches. I sewed everything by hand, including the little "apples." (Those are red sequins). They come with a tiny gold safety pin, but I took the picture before I added those w/ the promo tags. I think they would also make a cute pin cushion, sometime I'll get around to sewing/stuffing one. :)
Close-up can be seen in my shop.
I'm already working on my Summer Sampler contrib., I normally make these a couple months ahead, if I have spare time. They'll be knitted items, but I'm not telling exactly what, yet. :) My first contrib. was last August, so the Summer Sampler will make it a complete year! Yay! |

I just put this guy up for adoption on Etsy:

In other goings-on, Whammy! is going to start carrying my fried egg pins, and I just sent another batch of Pet Rocks to MY MY, since most of the first batch have sold. Hooray!
Also, if anyone's in the San Diego area this June, you will be able to see a couple of my exhibits at the county fair home and hobby display. I just registered to enter two stuffed creations, one project will be an original design of my own, while the other will be made from a pattern. Last year was the first time I entered, my crocheted stuffed puppies won a red ribbon and it was the most exciting thing ever. So if you want to see what I made for this year, you'll have to go visit them at the fair!
And I'll post my May Sampler contribution soon! I already sent them in.
I hope everyone has a nice week. |

| April Sampler contribution |
[Mar. 25th, 2006|02:12 am] |
For the April Sampler I contributed four Tom-stone plushes and I think 30-something of these little gift-wrapped bundles of tiny origami stars. I often include the stars in my packages, and people kept asking about them. So I thought it would be fun to give them out as samples this time!

The little paper stars are very sturdy. I'm a little worried that some might get squished if something *really* heavy sits on top of someone's Sampler, but otherwise they pass a moderate "squish test." I actually tried pounding on them and they kept their shape, especially when wrapped this way.
I also drew some up promos, they're not exactly business cards, they're more like little drawings and then they have my etsy shop and LiveJournal URLs on them.
I hope everyone's having a good weekend! |

| new plush! |
[Mar. 5th, 2006|04:25 am] |

I've been making these for over a year, they're actually an older invention than the pet rocks. My sisters and practically all of their friends have one sitting in the dashboard of their cars. We call them Tom-stones, which is likely the worst name ever, but it stuck. The first one I ever made was gray and looked kinda like a tombstone...hence "Tom-stone." I hope that's not too morbid for everyone! :D
This here is a whole bunch of them, they fit nicely together! Someone said they look kind of like dominoes...I guess they're right about that!
Now available in my Etsy shop. :) |
